The Bruins faced a challenging start to their four-game road trip when they lost a key player during the second period of their match against the Avalanche on Monday at Ball Arena.

Brandon Carlo, currently having a standout season, exited the game due to an upper-body injury, as announced by the Bruins, and he was ruled out for the remainder of the contest.

It wasn’t immediately clear when Carlo suffered the injury.

Derek Forbort is already absent from the Bruins' lineup, and if Carlo also joins the sidelined players, Boston will be without two of their top penalty killers and defensively skilled defensemen. Additionally, rookie Mason Lohrei sat out his second consecutive game after being struck in the mouth by a puck.

Carlo, who contributed with an assist in the game, had played for 1:50 before sustaining the injury. With two goals, seven assists, and an average ice time of 20:29, Carlo has been a significant presence on the ice for the Bruins.
